Eros

You knew, you always did,
but never did you say a word about it.
It could’ve been kindness that spurred your ignorance,
Or perhaps that’s too generous an inference

It was you that I came to abhor
Defence of a heart shattered to core
Though never did I truly blame you
What right did I have after all?
I couldn’t take the clue,
I should’ve expected the fall

And you should know,
Never did I mean a single hateful word
For how could I hate someone I claim to love?
It was just a show,
A show as impulsive as it was hollow,
A show put up because of my vision blurred

You are my only weakness, my Achilles Heel
The wasted feelings that I wish to repeal
And I have only one to blame apart from myself

Oh, Eros, what a cruel joke you’ve played
Cursing me with love that doesn’t fade.
Oh, Eros, what a cruel joke you’ve staged
Between unrequited love and fantasy, I’m caged.
